I am Juliet Were, a Global Fund for Women-supported activist in Uganda. I want people to know that women and girls are the face of global wars and armed conflicts. They are carrying the burden of everything that comes with conflict. They are sexually abused, they are carrying a high level of trauma. However, women in this context have hope -- hope for a better life, and determination to work towards a peaceful world. It is important that all of us speak out against bad governance in our countries, and speak out for the end of injustice that deprives women from the opportunities around them. When I look at the women and girls that we’re working with in a context of armed conflict and see that we have been able to lift them from a situation of vulnerability to active participants; where they’re able to voice out their own issues; where they’re able to take leadership. That makes me happy.
